Andy “V” Voggenthaler was one of
the originals that started running 10MW to train for his first marathon
back in 1994. V is VP of Business Development for Matrix Direct
(direct marketing company), does trademark licensing ventures on the
side, has several vintage automobiles, and over trains for pretty much
every race he does. His real endurance comes from the marathon
of sporting events he enjoys attending every week-end with his 3 kids.
Feel free to contact V anytime, since he never sleeps.
Patty “P” Mas lives in Carlsbad with her husband, two children, and arthritic dog. She works as a Marriage and Family Therapist and also teaches Sociology at Cal State San Marcos. When she joined 10MW she was the only girl who was regularly attending. It ended up being great motivation for her since she didn’t want to be left in the dust by a bunch of boys. As a result, she had her best triathlon season in years. “Thanks guys!”
Andy “G” Graham lives in Poway and still wonders after 7 years why he gets up at 5AM Wednesdays to drive half an hour and then run 10 miles. But, it’s become a habit he cannot do without. A core workout in his training regimen, 10MW allows Andy to keep up with his teenage sons and stave off old age. The Wednesday runs also provide the benefit of friends who inspire, cajole and sometimes nag Andy’s participation in races and other weekly workouts. Andy also serves as part-time consultant to Patty’s therapy business.
A recovering endurance athlete, Greg “Super G” Finch now spends his free time having lower back epidural injections and tossing the fetch stick (when he is able to lift his arm above his shoulder) to his dogs Kona, Kai and Kendall. A 7x Ironman finisher and 3x Ironman Hawaii competitor, Greg lives with his wife in Escondido.
Jim “Jimbo” Bertsch fell into the
group in 2000 when he moved to San Diego. Prior to that, he ran
a few marathons and triathlons. He attributes joining the group
with a definite improvement in his PR's. "Training with such
a diverse group allowed me to feel comfortable from the start but also
allowed me to train with some faster people when I felt I could do more.
Now his natural pace and expectations have increased. Having a
fun group to train with makes the workouts go by faster and more enjoyable.
“Of course, we all keep each other in check with a fun amount of competitive
needling, especially over post-training coffees.”
Christian “CP” Palouda is an adventure racer at heart, although he does dabble in triathlons now and then. Don't ask him to do a marathon though, because he'll tell you the distance is too short. When he's not running the hills of San Diego, he helps run a biotech company and runs after his wife and 2 3/4 children.
Nick Bokhoven is tall lanky Dutchman that joined the group back in 2004 upon the encouragement of Greg Finch. The first years were a struggle to hang on to the back of the group; however, with everyone’s encouragement, he stuck with it. The group quickly lit a raging fire in him, and today he enjoys the social aspects of training and racing triathlons. To Nick, it is about the journey to the race, not the race itself. 10MW has been a great way for him to find accountability partners – not to mention fellow people to have baking contests with.
